Fearing the small puppet show may be extinct, a group of thai artists are staging regular shows.

The Kam Nai troupe performs in an open space with limited props and settings.

The shows are held at Baan Silapin (Artists' Houses) in Bangkok's Klong Bang Luang district.

Admission is free but spectators can make donations.

The troupe believes doing so would maintain this centuries-old art form.

Jatuporn Niltho
A Kam Nai troupe's puppeteer

"We perform for the audience-locals and tourists."

"Staging free show means our performance is more accessible as some Thai can't afford the show."

"We only accept donations from people who appreciation our arts."

The small puppet show is one of the oldest Thai performances.

Puppeteers must have "Khon" (masked play) dancing as well as puppet controlling skills.

It takes several years for one to become a performer for the small puppet.
