What's in a name? Thai university library explores history of surnames
Chulalongkorn University's Central Library has extended "Beyond Surnames: A Legacy," an exhibition marking the 100th anniversary of King Vajiravudh’s passing that explores surname origins and cultural meanings in Thailand and abroad.
Interactive features include an AI-trained custom GPT that helps visitors generate surnames in historic Pali-Sanskrit styles and a stamping activity for designing personal crests. The exhibition runs through the end of October 2026.

Bangkok is the most visited city in the world, but what is life really like here in 2026? In this documentary, I explore the reality of Bangkok beyond the tourist perspective and show what everyday life looks like in one of the most dynamic cities in Southeast Asia.
From modern skyscrapers and luxury condominiums to crowded streets, traffic, and street food culture, Bangkok is a city built on contrasts. Life here combines extreme convenience with everyday chaos, where the BTS Skytrain connects modern districts while street life continues just below.
This video also looks at why millions of people visit Bangkok every year and why many of them end up staying much longer than planned. Whether it is the lifestyle, affordability, food, or energy of the city, Bangkok offers something unique that keeps people coming back.
This is Bangkok: Real Life in 2026

This film recorded the great flood that submerged most parts of Bangkok in 1942, during World War Two. Thae Prakasvudhisarn shot the film and also narrated it himself. It shows several city landmarks such as Hua Lamphong Station, Victory Monument, and in the last section the Anantasmakhom Throne Hall, which was used as the parliament, and thus a number of key political figures in Thailand were captured in the film as well.

It is Rainy Season in Bangkok and Thailand. The daytime is mostly dry and it rains in the afternoons and evenings. Your weather app will show rain, but this does not have to be the case.
During rainy season or monsoon you can have heavy downpours, but normally this only takes a short while. After that the air mostly clears up and it is dry.
The rainy season lasts from the middle of May till the middle of October, most heavy rain takes place in September and October.

Trok Mor Morning Market, one of Bangkok's oldest traditional markets, hidden right in the heart of the Old Town. While thousands of tourists pass by nearby temples every day, this market is where locals actually come to buy breakfast, fresh ingredients, and ready-made meals.
What I love about Trok Mor is that it still feels authentic. There are no flashy signs or tourist-focused stalls, just generations of vendors serving food they've been making for decades.

[BANGKOK] Vi udforsker Siloms enorme morgenmarked! Hvad skal man smage?
[BANGKOK] Silom Massive Morgenmarked!
